You then open your regular email client program (Outlook Express, Outlook, Windows Mail, or Eudora on Windows, or Apple Mail or Thunderbird or Eudora on Macintosh, etc.), check your email, and see that you can receive new messages just fine. I was suddenly unable to send emails from my Outlook 2010 account. I'm certain it has something to do with this computer, because I have the account set up on my laptop and another computer, and there are no issues. I hadn't had any problems since starting the account (approximately 6 months), and it just started.
I did the windows 10 upgrade yesterday and since then my Outlook 2010 cannot send mail. It receives mail as it should without any issues. I have multiple emails accounts with different vendors and it is doing the same on all of them so I have ruled out it being a hosting issue. I have also disabled all my internet security and firewall but that did not help at all?Yep, same thing happened to me on 2 computers.
You would think Microsoft would have at least it's own programs sorted for the launch. Anyway, here is the fix: 1.
Open a command prompt from the start menu as Administrator. Type sfc /scannow 3. Windows will scan your system files and repair corrupted ones (why they are corrupted who knows). Do a reboot and I am sure your emails will work again.

Outlook 2013. Only needed to run it once and one restart as advised. Thanks again. Yep, same thing happened to me on 2 computers.

I have a Verizon account, and my settings are those recommended. I'm using MS Outlook 2010 in Win 8, Win 7, and XP. I'm using the latest settings specified by Verizon.
Everything works perfectly, and has done so since since I made the changes a month or more ago. Unless you post your specific settings, exactly as they are entered into your Outlook program, there is no way that any of the volunteers here can provide useful suggestions. When I try to send email I eventually get a time out. I have called the Verizon techs any number of times and after working with them fruitlessly I was told to call Microsoft. Microsoft can't find the problem and said that it must be a problem that Verizon refuses to acknowledge.
Usually an SMTP timeout when the SMTP servers are configured correctly and definitely working point to a scan being run by your security software. I would look within your security software for any kind of outgoing email scan.
